2009 Here We Come...

So Christmas has come and gone and the New Year is here. We took a family trip to Monterey to start off our New Year and we had soooo much fun! We arrived on New Year's day just before sunset, so as soon as we (okay, Jason) got the trailer all hooked up we hit the trail to try and catch the sunset at the beach. We didn't quite make it to the water's edge to see the sun set, but needless to say it was a beautiful walk, and the girls even got in a little sand play time.
We decided to make the next day the aquarium day since it was a little rainy. There was so much for us all to see and even fum areas for the girls to explore and be active. They both had a lot of fun, as did we!
We also took along our bikes with seats on the back for a family bike ride. Saturday was a beautfully sunny day so it was a perfect day to enjoy a bike ride through town. We started at Monterey State beach and rode through the town on the trail down to Lover's beach. Of sourse we stopped at the wharf to stroll the shops, and get some goodies, and have lunch. Who can't resist a little clam chowder in a bread bowl when at the wharf?
One of Jason's favorite Monterey activities, a favorite childhood pastime of his, was Dennis the Menace park. SO we ended our trip on Sunday with a trip to the park. We had a blast playing there with the girls and then had lunch in the trailer and headed home. Such a fun getaway and what better way to bring in the new year than with the family! We are so blessed...

Two Busy Girls

So here it's nearly Christmas and I am just getting around to updating my attempt at a blog, thank you to Denise for the pressure.

Kaci has been in preschool now for nearly 4 months. We have loads of artwork from the fall, it seems like she brought home something new each day. She does really enjoy creating; whether it's playdough, painting, or stamping, she's in! (The messier the better. She is her mother's daughter ; ) She loved it when the firefighter came to visit. In fact she decided that's what she wants to be when she grows up. Which has since evolved to "I want to be a firefighter, teacher, doctor." Not a bad combination, eh? She is also taking more interest in her little sister. She has such a caring heart. Whenever Megan is hurt or crying Kaci goes on a quick hunt for Meg's "blanky" to help soothe her. She also helps mom and dad keep our eye out for Megan when she wanders to places she shouldn't be...such a little mother that girl. She has "grown up" so much in the past few months, Jason and I both would like to freeze time to slow things down.

Megan has done a lot of growing herself. She is always on the move, and never stops talking. She's putting her words together in phrases now. She is a little parrot and likes to mimic all of us, especially her big sister. In fact at preschool Kaci has been learning beginning sounds which involves a lot of, "/d/d/-daddy, /m/m/- mommy, etc. Megan now does this which may appear as though she is stuttering, when in fact she is just phonemically aware! ; ) Her personality is really coming through, and she is becoming our little comedian. A month or so ago she started pulling her hand inside her sleeve and saying "where'd go?" and when we responded with a concerned, "oh no where'd Megan's hand go?" She pushes out the sleeve and cracks up, and of course repeats that sequence several times over. She also just loves to be outside. She just loves that she is able to do more and more and pushes the boundaries each day. She's a runner and a climber, so we are always on are toes trying to keep up with her.

As far as Jason and I we actually took a vacation to Cabo this past October. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort, and had a wonderful time. It was our first real vacation minus kids since we started our family. We really enjoyed having a little time to catch up with one another, becasue let's face it with two busy little girls most of our conversations involve keeping up with the day to day tasks keeping a family running. So it really was a revitalizing time for us. We've decided we should do that at least every other year, with a family trip on alternating years. SO we're still brainstorming where our next trip will be?

We did invest in a travel trailer this summer, which has been such a fun addition. We call it our "Memory Maker" because we really enjoy weekend getaways as a family making memories that we hope the girls will remember for many years. I know we will. I will work on getting some of those photos added to this site soon...

As the summer comes to a close we prepare for a new season. Kaci just finished up her ballet lessons with a debut dancing performance on the stage at the state fair. No stage fright for her, I don't even know that she noticed there was an audience watching. She seemed more interested in the stage backdrop, and very focused on teacher Sue. Kaci, has just begun preschool and is loving it. Not a moment too soon as she full of questions and energy, so what better way to corral that inquisitiveness. She is attending an in home Montessori school close to mom's work. This year she will be going 2 full days a week, and is lucky to be attending with her cousin Kelsey. That way my sister in law and I can help one another with carpooling too, bonus! Megan, our youngest, has just begun to take her first steps, which means we too are "on the go." She is our adventurous one, so she dares to go where sister never dreamed of. So we're having to retool our monitoring system. She loves stairs, stools, and chairs, because they all lead to higher place, which seems to be where she always wants to go! She is staying with Miss Trudy on days that I work, so I feel very lucky that Megan gets the same TLC that Kaci got as a infant and toddler while I was working.
